Every year they survey tens of thousands developers across the world about various aspects in the IT industry, including technologies, languages, salaries, etc. This year over 50000 developers participated in a survey. The majority of responders were Full-Stack Web Developer (28.8%), followed by Back-End Web Developers (12.2%), Students - 11.4%, Mobile Developers - 8.4%, Desktop Developers - 6.9%, Front-End Web Developers - 5.8%.
The average developer is 29.6 years old. The median is 27. Most of them, over 30%, have 2 - 5 Years experience.
92% of developers were Male and just 5.8% marked Female. While most of Female developers are Designers.
An interesting fact about developers is that around 70% of them are self-taught, without development or programming related education background.

For the second year in a row Rust, Swift and Go make the top 5 most loved programming languages. VB tops the list of the most dreaded technologies – developers wouldn’t miss it if it went extinct. Developers who don’t currently develop with Android, Node and Angular want to do so.
As we see, Javascript is a leading language, since last year it has increased by 1%. Interesting is that among these languages PHP appears to be falling out of favor as Node and Angular emerge. However, since PHP 7 was launched, with dozens of improvements and doubled speed, at the end of the year we should expect to see PHP becoming more popular.
